Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 15, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to InstaCapture ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the InstaCapture mobile application (the "App").
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with its terms, please do not use the App.
Summary
InstaCapture is designed to work primarily on your device. Video capture, editing, captions, and shot-list planning happen locally. We do not operate our own cloud servers to collect, store, or sell your personal information.
Information We Collect
Device Permissions
The App requests access to the following device features only when needed to provide App functionality:
1. Camera Access
- Purpose: To capture videos through the App.
- Usage: Accessed when you use the camera feature.
- Storage: Video is recorded only when you start recording. Preview frames are not saved unless you record.
2. Microphone Access
- Purpose: To record audio during video capture and, when you choose, during voiceover recording in the editor.
- Usage: Accessed during recording or when you record a voiceover in the editor.
- Storage: Audio is stored only as part of recordings you create.
3. Photo Library Access
- Purpose: To save captured and exported videos to your device's photo library when you choose to export or save.
- Usage: Accessed when you save or export media.
- Storage: Saved files are stored in your device's photo library under your control.
4. Speech Recognition Access
- Purpose: To generate captions and transcripts from audio in your videos when you use caption or transcript features.
- Usage: Accessed only when you request transcription or captions.
- Processing: Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition framework. Audio from your videos is processed on your device to produce captions. We do not receive your audio or transcript text on our servers.
Local Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device:
- Recorded video clips and thumbnails
- Edited video projects and exported edits
- Temporary cache files needed for App operation
- Shot-list checklist items and related notes
- App preferences such as theme and camera settings
This data remains on your device unless you delete it, remove the App, or share content using features you initiate (such as the system share sheet).
On-Device AI Features
If you use shot-list generation, the App may use Apple Intelligence on supported devices to turn your text prompt into suggested shot ideas. That processing happens on your device through Apple's system frameworks. We do not receive your prompts or generated shot lists on our servers.
How We Use Your Information
We use the permissions and local data described above solely to:
- Provide core App functionality, including camera capture, recording, editing, and playback
- Save and manage your recordings and edits on your device
- Generate captions and transcripts when you request them
- Help you plan shoots with notes and optional on-device shot-list generation
- Maintain temporary files needed for App operation
Data Sharing and Disclosure
InstaCapture does not:
- Sell your personal information
- Operate advertising networks inside the App
- Use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs to profile you
- Upload your videos, audio, transcripts, or shot lists to our servers
When you use the system share sheet or save to your photo library, you choose what to share and with which apps or services. Any data handled by those third-party apps or services is governed by their own policies.
Apple may process certain on-device requests through its system services (for example, speech recognition or Apple Intelligence) under Apple's own terms and privacy practices.
Data Security
We take a local-first approach to protecting your content:
- Recordings and edits are stored in the App's on-device storage areas and, when you choose, in your photo library
- We do not transmit your media to InstaCapture-operated servers
- You can delete clips and edits within the App
- You can remove the App to delete App-specific on-device data
- You can manage permissions at any time in your device Settings
No method of electronic storage is completely secure, but limiting processing to your device reduces exposure compared with cloud-based workflows.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the App without verifiable parental consent.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy and update the "Last Updated" date.
Your continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the revised policy.
Your Rights and Choices
Because your content is stored locally on your device, you remain in control. You can:
- Delete recordings and edits within the App
- Export or save content only when you choose
- Turn permissions on or off in iOS Settings
- Remove the App and its on-device data at any time
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable law. Because we do not maintain a central account system or server copy of your media, many requests can be fulfilled directly by deleting content on your device or uninstalling the App.
